Gamora is a humanoid alien and the navigator of the Benatar, one of the Guardians of the Galaxy. She is introduced in the W-Series What-If episode "What If... a Guardian Fell from the Sky?".

Background

Gamora plots the Benatar's routes, weighing what the bounty postings are worth against how far the fuel will stretch. Rocket's summary of her, offered to four mammals who have never heard of any of them, is that she is the only competent one aboard and is permanently outnumbered.

Personality

Gamora is precise and unhurried, and she has heard every argument on the ship enough times that she can let one run past her without looking up from a readout. She checks things instead of reassuring anyone about them. When she does say something warm she says it plainly and once, and does not decorate it.

What If

The What-If episodes are alternate timelines and do not affect the main continuity.

In "What If... a Guardian Fell from the Sky?", Gamora is plotting a route while the rest of the crew argues about music, and the rift throws her into the navigation console. She braces there with one hand out toward a distance that has already become impossible, and Rocket goes through the breach.

She is on the ramp two weeks later. Her reunion is an inspection: both hands on his shoulders, a look for new wounds that finds none, a check that he is steady on his feet, and a note that his paws are more restless than when he left. Then she tells him he is all right and that she is glad, and that is the whole of it. On the far side of the rift, with the Benatar patched and flying and the music turned up, she is quietly correcting the navigation again, keeping the ship alive and never wanting anyone to notice.

Key Relationships

Rocket

Gamora reads Rocket by what his paws are doing, and what she finds after Zootopia is a raccoon carrying more restlessness than he left with and no new damage. Her welcome is the shortest of the crew's and the least hedged.
