Darnell Crocuta
Darnell Crocuta is a spotted hyena tried for aggravated assault and robbery in the first degree in We Can Fix Pawbert. He is introduced in the W-Series episode "Twelve Angry Mammals", where his trial is the whole of the story.
Background
Darnell is in his mid-twenties and lives in the Canal District, three blocks from Asmari's Corner Grocery, where an elderly kudu shopkeeper was knocked down and his register emptied. He holds a job, and his employer's pay stub covers the work jacket the prosecution treats as evidence of stolen money. A theft conviction eight years old and unrelated to the charge sits on his file.
Violent predator protocol puts a muzzle on any predator charged with aggravated assault and keeps it there until sentencing, absent a court order otherwise. No such order is made in his case, so Darnell wears a standard metal-frame muzzle long enough to leave its outline pressed into his fur.
Personality
He waives testimony, and the episode leaves open whether the silence is his choice or the muzzle's. What the courtroom gets instead is posture: shoulders pulled in as though the room has already measured him, cuffed paws in his lap, his gaze on the defense table.

W-Series
In "Twelve Angry Mammals" the prosecution rests on a photo identification, a neighbor who glimpsed a hyena leaving the block, Darnell's address, his record, and the jacket. Pawbert sits as the eighth juror, casts the only vote to acquit, and takes each piece apart: the lineup offered a single hyena beside five other species, the victim described a heavy-set attacker where the defendant is lean and wiry, and the pay stub accounts for the purchase. The room comes around in stages until the verdict is unanimous.
Darnell hears the acquittal without moving, then bows his head and brings his cuffed paws up against the muzzle. Judge Hargrove vacates the violent predator designation and orders the restraints off, and he breathes with his jaw free for the first time since his arrest. He finds Pawbert in the jury box and nods once.

The two never exchange a word. Pawbert recognizes the muzzle from his own arrest six years earlier, and that recognition is what stops him taking the identification on trust. After the verdict he stays in the jury box rather than cross the courtroom.
