Wolf Gary
Wolf Gary is a timber wolf who held the gate at Cliffside Asylum during Lionheart's secret containment, always paired with Larry. He is one of the two gate wolves from Zootopia and makes his first appearance in We Can Fix Pawbert in the W-Series, in Luther's flashback in "Good Wolf". The name the pack uses for him is Nick's — Wolf Gary, not our Gary — to keep him apart from Gary De'Snake.
Background
In the film he and Larry are the wolves at the Cliffside gate on the night Judy gets herself and Nick onto the island. Her howl from the fog sets Gary off, Gary sets off every other wolf on the grounds, and the gate is clear while they are all pointed at the sky. Gary maintains afterward that he did not start it.
Series History
W-Series
In "Good Wolf", Luther remembers Gary and Larry as a pair, on the same shifts, in the same corner of the gatehouse, with one thermos between them. On the breach night a howl comes out of the fog beyond the fence and tears an answer out of every wolf on the property, Luther included. In the accounting afterward the cameras and sensors are clean and every cell is occupied, and Gary swears up and down the rotation that it started outside the fence and he only answered it, with Larry backing him. Since the perimeter says there is nobody out there, the rotation draws the obvious conclusion, and Luther signs the incident log and blames Gary.
Years later, at the kitchen table, Judy tells Luther that the howl was hers. Luther, who has carried the grievance since Cliffside, sits with it reorganizing itself and concludes that he owes a timber wolf an apology, and two if Larry is still backing him. He also sets what he did to Gary beside what the senior wolf did to him. Gary's account did not match the sensors, so Luther wrote down the version that did and treated the matter as settled, and no briefing had told him to; the habit was already his.
