Tuftridge and his partner Cackwell are assigned to transport Kira Roskova to secure holding following her capture. The two agents share the reinforced prisoner compartment with Roskova, maintaining professional alertness with weapons accessible but not drawn.

When the transport convoy is ambushed on an industrial access road, Tuftridge responds by drawing his weapon and positioning himself between Roskova and the reinforced door---a defensive posture to protect against the threat. When the door explodes inward and a flashbang detonates, both agents are incapacitated.

In the aftermath, Tuftridge is found down and not moving. Both agents survive the ambush, though they sustain serious injuries. Director Costa receives the casualty report: "Two wounded, one critical. Cackwell and Tuftridge both survived, but Cackwell is in surgery."

The ambush reveals that Icener's network possessed detailed intelligence on ZSI transport routes, timing, and positioning---a significant security failure that escalates the crisis.
