Hensley
Hensley is a badger and the house manager of Maris and Harlan Pawthorne's estate at 2901 Kilimanjaro Parkway, introduced in the W-Series. He runs the household staff and meets every arrival at the top of the front steps, usually with the door already open.
Background
Hensley manages a four-story estate with a carriage house, a greenhouse complex, formal gardens and grounds staff, on a private road that does not appear on public maps. He works ahead of the house rather than behind it. He watches the drive camera, keeps track of who is expected and who is not, pitches the formality of his own suit to the size of the evening, and brings in outside catering and a specialist chef when the guest list runs to twenty-eight. He has been in the house long enough to have known Luther as a kit, and the window in Luther's childhood bedroom has stayed cracked open ever since because Hensley never closed it.
Personality
Hensley's composure is total and thirty years deep. He addresses Luther and Pawbert as Master Luther and Master Pawbert, offers no opinion on an unannounced arrival at half past nine on a weeknight, and answers a request for coffee by reporting that it is already brewing. His reflexes belong to a mammal who has handled worse than whatever is currently in front of him, and he tends to have the fix in his paws before anyone in the room has finished naming the problem.
Series History
W-Series
In "Pawthorne", Hensley meets Nick and Judy at the top of the steps after a break-in through the greenhouse and walks them to the drawing room where Harlan is standing over two zip-tied intruders. He opens the door for Luther and Pawbert on their unannounced evening visit, directs them to the library, and has coffee going before it is asked for. On the Saturday of the family dinner he answers the door in a darker, crisper suit, having been told guests were coming and adjusted accordingly, and he clears the plates before the dessert Harlan takes credit for arrives.
He returns in "The Guest List" in a formal evening suit with silver cufflinks, an upgrade Pawbert reads instantly as the difference between a family dinner and a gala. His staff serve twenty-eight place settings on invisible cues, and when Pawbert deliberately tips a glass of red wine across the tablecloth to get Luther out of the room, Hensley is beside the table with towels before the apology is finished.

Hensley runs the house Maris hosts in, and the division is clean: she decides what the evening is, and he supplies the staffing, the catering and the tablecloth that matches it. When she wants guests shown out, she says his name and it is handled.
Luther and Pawbert Pawthorne
Hensley greets Luther with the honorific he has used since Luther was a kit and gives Pawbert the identical one without a beat of adjustment. What either of them gets from him is service and no commentary, which is worth something in a house where the staff see everything and mention none of it.
