Scalesby is a pangolin and the Pawthorne family's longtime housekeeper in We Can Fix Pawbert. She has been in the family's service for years and watched Luther grow up from a cub.

Background

Scalesby kept house for the Pawthornes at the family home, Pawthorne Mansion, while Luther was a cub โ€” long enough to know which of his midnight raids on the kitchen he thought he had gotten away with. Along with Crispin, the former groundskeeper, she watched him grow from that cub into a ZSI agent.

Personality

Scalesby is soft-voiced and warm. She remembers Luther's childhood in fond, unsparing detail and shares it freely, and when he objects she pats his arm and tells him there is no shame in having been a wonderful cub.

Series History

Season 5

Scalesby appears at Luther and Pawbert's wedding in S05E24 "Always", arriving alongside Crispin and the Pawthorne family. When Maris thanks them for coming, Scalesby's voice is thick with emotion as she explains that she and Crispin watched Luther grow up and would not miss this moment for anything.

During the reception, Scalesby shares stories with Nick about Luther's childhood, including tales of him sneaking into the kitchen at midnight to steal cookies. She recalls how Luther would stuff his cheeks like a chipmunk and leave crumbs on his pillow, thinking no one noticed. She also mentions that Luther had a stuffed rabbit he slept with until he was ten years old.

When Luther catches Nick gathering these stories, Scalesby gently pats his arm and reminds him that he was a wonderful cub and there is no shame in that.

Key Relationships

Luther Pawthorne

Scalesby knew Luther as a cub and holds deep affection for him. Household staff rather than family, she nonetheless calls him a wonderful cub to his face and touches his arm to say it, and she tells Maris she would not have missed his wedding for anything.

Crispin

Scalesby and Crispin share a long history of service to the Pawthorne family. They arrive at the wedding together and trade Luther's childhood stories back and forth without needing to coordinate.
