Pawthorne Mansion
Pawthorne Mansion is the pack's home, located in the Meadowlands district of Zootopia. Originally belonging to the Pawthorne family, it becomes the central domestic setting from Season 4 onward. Luther inherited the property from his family, whose fortune was built on shipping โ a legitimate fortune contrasting the Lynxley criminal dynasty. Luther lived alone in the mansion for seven years before Pawbert's release, using only "maybe four rooms."
Exterior
Approach and Entry
The mansion sits at the end of a private drive lined with mature oaks forming a canopy overhead. A wrought iron front gate, keyed to Luther's vehicle, opens onto a circular driveway large enough for multiple vehicles. A dry, non-functional fountain sits at the center of the circular drive. Hedges run the length of the property perimeter, and trees across the street provide external observation points.
Service Access
At the rear of the property, a service entrance provides contractor and delivery access. A narrow, unpaved service road โ weeds growing through gravel, low-hanging branches forming a tunnel โ connects to a secondary gate with a digital code panel hidden under climbing vines. The service road had not been used in approximately fifteen years before Luther first used it during the media siege.
Outdoor Spaces
A back patio overlooks the grounds and garden, with glass doors connecting to the living areas. The patio was the site of Luther's surprise birthday party. A garage sits at the rear of the property near the service area. The front porch receives deliveries, with a porch light that Luther keeps on a timer.
Interior
Ground Floor
Foyer โ The central entry, also referred to in various contexts as the main hall or entryway. Four sets of key hooks by the door, engraved with initials (L.P., P.P., N.W., J.H.). A welcome mat and pictures on the walls โ both added after the pack moved in โ warm what was once a bare entryway. Marble floors, high ceilings. An archway leads to the living room, and a sweeping staircase rises to the upper floors.
Living Room โ A large space originally meant for entertaining, with tall windows, hardwood floors, and couches arranged for conversation. A fireplace with a mantel displays the heist trophy from the B99 crossover. The coffee table is covered in coasters, remotes, and general detritus. A bar cart sits in the corner. Nick has claimed a particular throw blanket as his own. The Pack Charter hangs framed on the wall. The Chart 2.0 occupies its designated wall space, replacing the original Chart which Luther keeps in his office at Precinct 1. A connecting door leads to the library.
Kitchen โ The heart of pack domestic life, anchored by a commercial-grade range and a kitchen island with seating. A large table seats twelve. Copper pots hang from a rack โ older than Pawbert โ above counter space "enough for a restaurant." Well-stocked pantry, coffee maker, and spices from Kamila's stall in Sahara Square. The Four Green Mugs hang on hooks by the coffee maker โ a pack tradition and the first thing that comes down each morning. A framed napkin with Charles's recipe hangs on the wall. A cork board by the fridge holds grocery lists, a photo strip, and Nick's notes.
Dining Room โ Formal table for twelve with proper dishes and cloth napkins. Used for pack dinners and operational planning sessions, including the Nine-Nine's heist briefing.
Library โ Originally "Luther's Library," the space gradually became shared as Pawbert settled in. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves with ladders on rails for reaching high shelves. Deep armchairs, a massive desk, a couch, and a grandfather clock in the corner. Pawbert's bookshelf from ITREEA sits alongside Luther's plant on the windowsill. A jade plant occupies the corner of the desk. Pawbert's electric guitar and amp are set up here. Tall windows provide natural light. A connecting door leads to the living room.
Study โ Located in the east wing, between the library and the gun room. A smaller, quieter workspace.
Sitting Room โ A separate room from the living room, part of the ground floor's original entertaining layout.
East Wing Ground Floor
The east wing extends from the main living areas and contains the library, study, and gun room in sequence. From the foyer, the path runs past the living room into the east wing corridor; from there, past the library and study to the gun room door.
Upper Floors
Master Bedroom (Luther and Pawbert) โ Located in the main house, accessible from the central staircase. Vaulted ceiling overlooking the grounds. Nightstands on each side: Luther's holds a neat stack of intelligence briefings, Pawbert's holds whatever books he is currently reading. A corkboard near the closet โ carried over from Pawbert's prison days โ holds Maddie's card, the Squad Polaroid, and family photos. A chair sits in the corner, where the green sweater is draped. An ensuite master bathroom connects to the room, with a separate shower and tub, tile that holds warmth, and accessible fixtures with thoughtful design.
Nick and Judy's Room (East Wing) โ Located in the east wing on the same floor as the master bedroom. Nick and Judy were initially given a room in the guest wing when they first stayed over, but moved to the east wing by the time they officially took up residence. Amber curtains Nick bought to replace the originals (which were "aggressively beige"). An ensuite bathroom has a double sink. The east wing shares a ventilation system with the main house, meaning sound carries through the ducts โ a recurring source of humor and occasional awkwardness.
Guest Wing โ Connected to the east wing by a corridor, with its own staircase (two turns). Three to four guest bedrooms, mostly unused. The Nine-Nine stayed overnight in the guest wing during the heist planning. The beds are large enough to impress Jake Peralta.
Gym โ Luther's personal gym with weight equipment.
Secure Areas
Gun Room (East Wing) โ Located at the end of the east wing ground floor, past the library and past the study. Accessed by digital keypad (code: 1126, Pawbert's birthday). Individual weapon safes with separate ammunition storage. Luther built the room specifically to comply with Pawbert's PRS terms, which prohibited him from accessing weapons during his supervision period. The code was supposed to change monthly per PRS requirements; Nick kept forgetting new codes, so it stayed the same for over a year. Pawbert gained access after completing PRS and entered the code himself during the Icener attack on the mansion.
Room Counts
The mansion contains ten bedrooms total โ six in the main house and four in the guest wing โ along with eight bathrooms, four of which are described as "functional." The mansion also has an independent backup climate control system, separate from the city grid.
Layout
Ground Floor
The ground floor centers on the foyer, with the living room accessible through an archway. The kitchen connects to the living room and opens to the back patio through glass doors. The dining room sits adjacent. The east wing extends from the main living areas in sequence: library, study, and gun room at the far end behind a keypad-locked door. The guest wing connects to the east wing via a corridor.
Upper Floors
The master bedroom occupies a central position in the main house, accessible from the main staircase. Nick and Judy's room is in the east wing, on the same floor. The guest wing has its own staircase connecting to additional bedrooms on its second floor. The third floor contains additional bedrooms from the original ten-bedroom layout.
Atmosphere
Before the pack moved in, the mansion was spare and elegant but cold. Rooms echoed, corners felt empty, and the furniture was designed for a family that no longer lived there. Luther had maintained the space but never made it a home.
After the pack's arrival, the mansion transformed. Personal touches appeared throughout: photos on the walls, a welcome mat at the door, engraved key hooks in the foyer, the particular mess of a space that is actually lived in. The Pack Charter was framed and hung in the living room. Noise and laughter filled previously quiet spaces.
History
Season 4
When Pawbert is released from ZCF, Luther brings him to the mansion and reveals his full surname, Pawthorne, for the first time. In "Transfer", Luther presents all four pack members with house keys โ "Not a loan. Not a backup. Yours" โ and reveals the secure firearms storage room in the east wing. Murray Burrows approves the residence during a surprise home visit. Nick and Judy are initially given a room in the guest wing.
In "Liaison", Nick and Judy have settled into the east wing. The ventilation system connecting their room to the main house is discovered โ meaning the pack can hear each other through the walls.
In "Solo Shift", Pawbert buys a jade plant and places it in the library. It later moves to the library desk, where it remains.
In "Front Lawn", reporters besiege the mansion gate. Luther uses the overgrown service entrance for the first time in fifteen years. Afterward, the property is placed in a trust to obscure the address from public registries.
In "Charter", Nick and Judy officially move in permanently. Luther reveals personalized keys engraved with initials, replacing the trial keys. The pack shops at ITREEA for furniture, including library bookshelves for Pawbert's study space. The Pack Charter is established, formalizing household rules.
In "The Chart", Nick creates The Chart and hangs it on the living room wall. The fire escape outside their room becomes a recurring location for Nick and Judy's private conversations.
In "Operational Surprise", Luther counter-infiltrates his own surprise birthday party through the service entrance. The back patio hosts the celebration.
Season 5
In "The Job", the Nine-Nine visits the mansion for an operational planning session. Jake reacts to the scale of the property. Charles discovers his framed napkin recipe in the kitchen and sobs. Terry discovers the library's ladders on rails. Holt observes the corkboard. The entire Nine-Nine stays overnight in the guest wing, with operational planning conducted at the dining room table. The heist trophy remains on the living room mantel.
In "Misdirection", Pawbert opens the mansion as a shelter during the Icener weather wall crisis. Twenty-two mammals from the neighborhood โ including the Dunphys, the Delgados, and an elderly armadillo โ take refuge in the mansion. The foyer becomes a triage center, with Pawbert providing first aid using his ZRS training. The mansion's independent backup climate control, separate from the city grid, keeps the house habitable while the city's systems fail.
In "Inferno", Luther returns home after the Rainforest District fire. Key scenes take place in the main hall and master bedroom.
The mansion serves as a battleground during the Icener crisis. In "Without Options", Pawbert enters the gun room code himself for the first time, and he and Luther arm themselves before being captured by Icener's forces. The mansion sustains damage during the attack.
In "Complacency", the aftermath of the crisis is visible: fresh paint on the east wing walls, replaced windows. Judy project-managed the restoration using a Gantt chart. The original Chart is moved to Luther's office at Precinct 1, and Nick hangs The Chart 2.0 in its place on the living room wall, framed to match the original.
In "Always", the pack prepares for the double wedding from the mansion. The series' final scene drifts through the mansion at night: past Nick and Judy's room where they sleep, past the kitchen where Charles's napkin hangs on the wall, to the master bedroom where Luther and Pawbert lie together. The green sweater โ Lillian's sweater โ is draped over the chair in the corner, watching over them.
Post-Series
In "Bunnyburrow", the mansion's morning routine is established: the four green mugs come down from hooks in order, Luther cooks at the stove, Pawbert scrolls his client schedule at the counter, Judy works a case file at the table, and Nick arrives under protest. The key hooks in the foyer now read L.P., P.P., N.W., J.H. โ Pawbert's initials updated from P.L. to P.P. after taking Luther's surname. Luther keeps the porch light on a timer.
