Bree Vantage is a cheetah and a reporter for the Zootopia Enquirer in We Can Fix Pawbert. She appears twice in Season 4, representing the media pressure that Pawbert faces as a public figure during his reintegration.

Series History

Season 4

S04E04 "Open Enrollment"

Bree ambushes Pawbert at a falafel cart on the GYU campus while he is there with Luther to explore re-enrollment. She presses him on his reintegration, then on his relationship with Agent Pawthorne, then on whether a convicted criminal should be allowed back at all. Pawbert refuses both framings โ€” "My relationship is not a public bargaining chip." and "I'm not here as a Lynxley." โ€” and walks. She calls after him: "The city remembers what you did, Mr. Lynxley."

The steadiness does not survive the walk. In the parked car, Pawbert's paws shake and he tells Luther he wanted to run, wanted to disappear, and that she was right about what the city remembers.

S04E11 "Front Lawn"

Bree leads a press pool waiting at the Pawthorne Mansion gate, joined by a Hoofbeat News anchor, a Gnu York Post reporter and a scrum of freelancers and tabloid bloggers. She shouts about Pawbert's rehabilitation, the origin of the Lynxley fortune, and whether Luther's relationship is another cover story, and stays on the story after a blogger spots Nick and Judy in the back seat and the pack's living arrangement becomes a second scandal. Luther gives up on the gate and takes the car in along an overgrown service road behind the property.

Maris Pawthorne arrives and works the pool outlet by outlet, telling Bree she sits on the boards of three companies whose advertising funds the Zootopia Enquirer's publisher and offering to make some calls. Harlan Pawthorne makes them from beside the car, including one to the publisher about Bree specifically. Her phone rings; when she turns back from the call the sharp smile is gone. Harlan later tells Luther that Bree's editor was very receptive to his concerns. Withdrawal notices from the Enquirer, Hoofbeat News and the Gnu York Post reach Pawbert's phone one after another.

Personality

Bree is aggressive and opportunistic in her reporting, pursuing the Pawbert Lynxley story for its tabloid value. She represents the media pressure that follows Pawbert's public notoriety โ€” the assumption that his worst moment defines him permanently.

Key Quotes

Quote Context
"The city remembers what you did, Mr. Lynxley." Her parting shot after Pawbert walks away at GYU (S04E04)
"Pawbert! Pawbert Lynxley! Care to comment on your rehabilitation?" Opening the press pool at the mansion gate (S04E11)

Trivia

  • Bree works for Roopert Murdock, owner and publisher of the Zootopia Enquirer. Murdock never appears; he is the pressure point Maris Pawthorne and Harlan Pawthorne use to reach her. Her own editor is a separate mammal, also never named.
