Criminal Minds is the crime drama behind the ZSI-BAU crossover characters in We Can Fix Pawbert. Created by Jeff Davis, it ran for fifteen seasons on CBS between 2005 and 2020, following an FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit that profiles offenders rather than chasing evidence.

Overview

In We Can Fix Pawbert, the Criminal Minds characters are reimagined as members of the ZSI-BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit), a division within ZSI that works out of the sixth floor of the same headquarters building as the Crisis Coordination Center. The crossover keeps the team's method intact: they are brought in when a case turns on why an offender does something rather than on what he left behind.

WCFP Episodes

Season 1: Quietus / I Choose to Stay (S01E17-18)

  • "Quietus" โ€” Cooperating witnesses in the Lynxley case keep dying in guarded rooms, each leaving a near-identical note. The team concludes that someone has been talking them into it and that Pawbert is next; Judy and JJ trace the pattern to a former prison psychologist, and Garcia seeds a number he will call
  • "I Choose to Stay" โ€” Pawbert takes the call with the team listening in, refuses what he is offered, and holds the line long enough for Garcia to fix the trace. Morgan breaches the apartment; Rossi tells Pawbert to borrow the pack's certainty until his own returns

Season 2: The Cartographer (S02E11)

  • "The Cartographer" โ€” The BAU traces a methodical series of killings, all dumped at old Lynxley operational sites, to Orin Draftwell. He gives himself up to Morgan and calls what he did correction rather than murder; Garcia catalogs his records and finds a personal file on Soren Natz

Season 5: Profile (S05E14)

  • "Profile" โ€” Reid profiles Mikhail Icener as moral injury rather than the standard terrorist template: four years of legitimate requests met with silence, then grief converted to purpose. His warning is that this makes Icener more dangerous rather than less, because there is no ideology to exploit; Rossi's is that no new demands are coming, because the attacks are the message

Season 5: Final Position (S05E21)

  • "Final Position" โ€” Prentiss, Morgan and JJ deploy with the western element; Garcia works the drone feeds; Rossi advises from command

W-Series

  • "SSA" โ€” Prentiss comes to Precinct 1 as Costa's conduit, asks the front desk for SSA Pawthorne, and carries an offer of permanent command over the half-rebuilt Crisis Coordination Center
  • "Nighthowler" โ€” Rossi, Reid, Garcia, Prentiss and Morgan work the crisis alongside the Reacher team, Precinct 7 and Station 118

Notes

  • The crossover draws on Criminal Minds (CBS, 2005โ€“2020), whose Behavioral Analysis Unit is itself modeled on the real FBI unit of that name at Quantico. WCFP places its counterpart inside ZSI as the ZSI-BAU rather than as a separate agency.
  • David Rossi is a founding member of the BAU in the source series, which is why the WCFP version is the team's senior profiler rather than its unit chief.
