Francine (full name Francine Pennington) is a female African elephant and a ZPD officer assigned to Precinct 1. She is the largest officer in the precinct and one of the most reliable, participating in major operations throughout Season 5.

In Zootopia

Francine appears in the original Zootopia film as one of the officers at the bullpen briefing on Judy Hopps's first day. When Chief Bogo announces they need to acknowledge "the elephant in the room," Francine appears nervous before Bogo reveals he simply wants to wish her a happy birthday. She later participates in the raid on Cliffside Asylum and the arrest of Assistant Mayor Bellwether at the Natural History Museum.

Personality

Francine maintains a professional presence at Precinct 1. She uses her trunk drums to signal or express emotion---the sound carrying from the evidence room across the bullpen. In combat, she brings overwhelming force to bear, using her massive frame to devastating effect.

When Luther returns to Precinct 1 for his birthday celebration, the bullpen is described as exactly as he left it---including "the distant sound of Francine's trunk drums from the evidence room."

S05E21 "Final Position"

Francine participates in the final assault on Icener's compound as part of the eastern assault team. She is positioned at the rear, ready to charge, alongside Koslov's polar bears and Officers Higgins and Bloats. During the breach, Francine trumpets once---the sound cutting through the chaos---and crashes through a secondary defensive position. The sheer mass of an elephant crushing the emplacement scatters bodies like leaves. She calls "CLEAR!" after securing her objective.

Notes

Despite being named "Francine Pennington" in expanded Zootopia media, Chief Bogo has addressed her as "Trunkaby" in the original film.
