Brim

Season 4

Brim is introduced in "Tips" working the Micro Station while Pawbert trains at the Grande Station. His signature line: "Micro drinks, micro problems. You Grande mammals make everything complicated."

In "Radio Silence", Brim watches from the Micro Station while Pawbert checks his phone through a shift, waiting on word from Luther, and calls over that he checks that phone more than he checks his orders. When Pawbert says he is just waiting for something, Brim gives him the flattest comfort available — "Waiting's the worst part." / "The thing either happens or it doesn't. The waiting doesn't change which." — bluntness that cuts through where kindness only glanced off. He rides out to The Watering Hole on Lane's shoulder that evening, on the grounds that he doesn't ride the floor because there are too many big feet.

In "The Apron Incident" Brim logs Pawbert's removal of his own apron as "Apron theft. Noted," then goes with the crew to The Watering Hole and on to Mika's studio, where he settles by the tea corner with a thimble-sized cup and takes charge of the tea, being very particular about steeping times. He turns up again in "Routine", having hitched a ride to Snarlbucks on an elk's shoulder and hopped off at the opportune moment, to correct Lane's account of the afternoon rush.

In "Full Circle", Brim pays Pawbert a rare compliment on his last day at Snarlbucks. "He was better than adequate," he says from the Micro Station, and when Lane gasps that it is the nicest thing Brim has ever said about anyone, adds "Don't tell anyone I said it. My reputation would suffer."

He attends Pawbert's 28th birthday in "Loud and Determined", riding in on Lane's shoulder with the crew and the apron they saved for him, and volunteering from that shoulder that Lane threatened to cry if they didn't bring it.

Season 5

Brim appears in "Golden Age" and "Pattern Recognition", demonstrating that the Snarlbucks friendships have persisted well beyond Pawbert's time at the coffee shop.

In "Departure", Brim attends the gathering at Pawthorne Mansion, arriving on Lane's shoulder as usual.

During the weather wall attack in "Misdirection", Brim is at the Meadowlands community center on Lane's shoulder, clinging on as Lane sprints the length of the gymnasium to reach Pawbert. When Lane stalls over Pawbert's offer to run the shelter, Brim is the one who tells him to let Pawbert help. By dawn he is asleep on Lane's shoulder.

In "Climate Control", Brim continues working at the shelter alongside Lane, Selma, and Mika.

Brim attends the double wedding in "Always" as part of Pawbert's friend group.

W-Series

In "Nighthowler", Brim rides Lane's shoulder to Pawthorne Mansion in the small hours after Pawbert texts for company, and settles on the kitchen counter to sit out the night with his paws folded, watching the coffee with the gravity he brings to all coffee-adjacent matters. It is Brim who says the thing that finally cracks Pawbert open, and he says it flat: Luther is coming back, because the mammal Pawbert married does not quit things and Brim has seen his filing system. The timing pulls a half-laugh out of Lane, and the laugh is what lets the fear through.

When the crying starts, Brim climbs down and crosses the table without hurrying and rests one paw on Pawbert's forearm — a contact barely large enough to feel — and leaves it there. Afterward he pronounces the coffee terrible and volunteers to make the next one. He goes with Lane to the Meadowlands field and on to the hospital, and when Luther is awake and the pack has gathered around the bed, Brim raises one paw from Lane's shoulder in the doorway, in a wave that is solemn and precise.
