Station 118 is a Zootopia Fire Department station staffed by first responders who become unexpected allies to Pawbert. The station is notable for its tight-knit crew and their capacity to connect with trauma survivors through shared experience.

Description

Station 118 runs both fire and emergency medical response. Photographs of past crews line one wall of the common room, five and ten and fifteen years back, the faces changing and the poses the same. The long table at the center of that room is where the house holds its post-incident dinners: cloth napkins, wine glasses, three kinds of bread, and a second casserole waiting in the oven.

History

Season 1

Station 118 first appears when Pawbert comes to the post-incident dinner during the safehouse period. Buck challenges Nick to arm wrestling before Nick has his coat off, Hen and Judy fall into comparing report formats, and Eddie watches from the counter.

Over the meal Bobby Nash tells Pawbert about his drinking and the mammals he killed while he was doing it. Maddie Han gives Pawbert a card carrying words she had needed to hear herself: "You are not what happened to you. You are what you choose to become." He holds it with both paws like it is made of glass. Later that night, back at Site Two, Judy hands him a second envelope from the evidence return: his mother's recipe card, with "Pawbert likes extra carrots" written in the margin.

Season 2

The 118 rolls on the Tundratown-Sahara Power Substation bombing in "Collateral" after Maddie takes a call from a maintenance tech trapped in the east wing and the line goes dead mid-sentence. Bobby takes the crew in while Athena runs the perimeter for ZPD, and Pawbert is brought to the scene as a consultant on infrastructure his own family built. Maddie comes to Zootopia General Hospital off-duty to see the mammals she helped save, finds Pawbert in a hallway blaming himself for the eight dead, and tells him he does not get to carry everything his family did. Bobby takes him aside at a window over the memorial garden and observes that he has stopped waiting for the catch.

Season 5

By the time of the Icener crisis, Bobby Nash has died. Six months earlier a virus outbreak followed a lab containment breach, and there was one dose of antidote. Maddie was pregnant, so Bobby gave it to Chimney.

During the Rainforest District fire attack ordered by Mikhail Icener, Station 118 is one crew among the twenty-one stations mobilized for the district-level disaster. Chimney runs the staging area in a captain's insignia the pack has not seen on him before, Hen works burn victims on stretchers, Buck loads civilians onto evacuation transports, and Eddie cycles in and out of the fire. Athena is there in ZPD blues rather than ZFD gear, working the same sector as the crew. It falls to her to tell Nick that Bobby is dead.

When Pawbert breaks the perimeter to reach a friend's studio above the Zen Noodle block, it is Eddie and Buck who spot him coming back out of the smoke half-carrying a red panda, and Eddie who grabs him and invokes Bobby's name to make the point land.

W-Series

In "The Call" the station's reinforced basement bunker, added after Icener, is where the crew spends the hour: five firefighters with a radio and their beacons on continuous broadcast, sent underground by a citywide protected-positions order that comes with no reason attached, while Maddie hears the reason at dispatch and cannot repeat it. Ravi Panikkar, the newest firefighter, is with them, and Athena falls back to the same bunker as her nearest designated position. The engine that was about to roll on a Rainforest Canopy Road accident is left running in the bay; it rolls thirty-eight minutes later, when the order is lifted.

Significance

At the 118 Pawbert is a guest rather than a case, and the crew talks at the table about the worst things they have done without lowering their voices for him. Maddie's card goes with him from Site Two into ZCF property storage and back out again, ends up on the corkboard at Pawthorne Mansion, and is still on that wall at the end of the series.
