Raymond Holt

Season 1

Holt takes the Lynxley courier case in "Precinct 99" as a jurisdictional favor to Precinct 1, briefing his squad on a money courier named Ferrick who will only speak to officers of the Ninety-Ninth. Ferrick's one condition is Holt himself, on the theory that the captain is too boring to lie, so Holt comes to the diner the ferret picked. He gives his word as an officer and a captain that no harm will come to him under the precinct's protection, and offers to advocate for leniency in his sentencing without promising anything he cannot deliver. When Luther pushes to move the meeting indoors and Ferrick refuses, Holt settles it in the ferret's favor and accommodates the venue. He relocates the interview only after the ferret has established good faith, and does it on the stated grounds that he will not take a courier's testimony in front of a street-facing window.

Later that night he calls Pawbert into his office and reads his distress off his posture. The advice that follows comes from Holt's own career, where he faced corruption, discrimination, and mammals who wanted to end his life and career for what he is. A framed photograph of his husband, Kevin, sits on the desk. Asked how he survived it, Holt answers: "By being exactly who I am, without apology." He adds that Pawbert has found mammals who stand with him, and that this is not a small thing. When Pawbert protests that they found him rather than the reverse, Holt tells him the result is identical.

Holt enters the Halloween Heist in "The Heist" intending to win it, and recruits Pawbert onto his team, telling him plainly that he was raised among criminals and understands how they hide things, and that those skills do not define him but could be useful for one harmless night. The two study a scale drawing of Gina's display case together in his office. Holt then takes the trophy off Rosa with a play three weeks in the preparation, involving a specially ordered smoke machine, a strategically placed yogurt, and a radio call in a voice Dispatch would later disown. It is a decoy. When Pawbert opens the false bottom of the case just before midnight, Holt calls the result remarkable, tells him the skills his family gave him under duress belong to him rather than to the ones who taught him, and shakes his paw with his trunk. Before the pack leaves he extends a standing welcome to the Ninety-Ninth, an invitation he notes he does not extend lightly.

Season 2

Holt returns with his squad in "Nine-Nine" when Precinct 99 requests the pack's help with a money laundering case connected to the Clawrence investigation. When Jake proposes holding the second Halloween Heist at the pack's safehouse, Holt reframes the entire exercise as a legitimate security operation, telling the pack: "I am suggesting you transform a recreational tradition into tactical intelligence."

Drawing on personal experience, Holt notes that his husband Kevin once spent time in a safehouse under Jake's protection during a difficult period. He vouches for his squad despite their eccentricities, in two halves separated by Jake thanking him for the first: "My point is this: the mammals of the Ninety-Nine are unconventional. Chaotic. Frequently irritating." / "But they are also trustworthy. A criminal once described them as 'too weird to be corrupt.' I consider that an accurate assessment." He then delivers a callback to his advice from the first heist: "I believe you have found what I told you to look for. Mammals who stand with you."

During the heist itself in "The Audit", Holt allies with Pawbert in a strategy that plays to both their strengths. Holt serves as the visible decoy while Pawbert operates unseen. At a key moment, Holt creates an opening by loudly observing: "Does anyone else find it peculiar that Detective Peralta and Mr. Lynxley sound eerily similar?" While everyone processes this non sequitur, Pawbert executes the trophy swap.

When Jake discovers the deception, Holt explains their approach: "I was the visible threat. Everyone anticipated my movements. No one watched his."

After midnight, Holt presents Luther with a comprehensive security assessment on index cards: seven potential entry points identified, four significant vulnerabilities, and three surveillance gaps including the kitchen blind spot. His parting words to Pawbert acknowledge the pack's progress: "The mammals who stand with you have done their work well."

Season 5: The Otterdam Heist

During the Icener crisis, Holt participates in the third heist in "The Job" — the Frost Crown data theft from the Otterdam shipping facility. On arrival at the mansion, he stops at the mantel to study the heist trophy — a tradition carried over from his own precinct, kept polished and given pride of place — and tells Pawbert it is gratifying to observe the life he has built. Before the operation, he frames the night's purpose with characteristic precision: all heists have consequences, and tonight they pursue victory. He coordinates the operation from the surveillance van alongside Amy, providing steady command that anchors the heist's controlled chaos. After the successful extraction, Holt tells Luther that the squad did the work but the framework, the safe location and the trust that let them function without hesitation were his, and that this is not a small contribution. In "Departure", Holt offers his parting wisdom: "Guard what you have built here. It is not a small thing."

Season 5: The Final Battle

Holt arrives at the perimeter during the assault on the Root in "Final Position", helping to seal the area as the crisis reaches its climax.

Season 5: The Wedding

Holt attends the double wedding in "Always", walking in at the center of the Precinct 99 contingent in a suit so precisely tailored it could have been painted on. At the reception he approaches the pack's table to offer Luther his congratulations, and when Luther deflects the credit by saying he only provided the house, Holt tells him not to undersell the contribution: "Leadership is often invisible until it is absent. You provided more than a house. You provided stability. Safety. The conditions in which love could flourish." He recalls telling Pawbert once that he had found mammals who stand with him, calls that perhaps the only thing that matters, and looks out across the reception before adding: "Guard it well."
